It's all about the story. That is certainly the case on our Local Produce Trail Tour. This tour includes exclusive experiences to Southbound Escapes including meeting with local producers, hearing their stories and tasting their incredible products.
The tour starts in Mystery Bay with a walk on Country with one of the local First Nations Aboriginal knowledge holders. This guided walk on Mystery Bay Beach is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in nature and learn all about ancient Aboriginal sustainability practices, caring for country and each other. Forage for bush food and bush medicines are learn all about their traditional uses.
Continue the theme of foraging and meet with local kelp farmer and producer Mystery Bay Kelp. Learn all about one of Australia's most innovative sustainable industries and the health benefits of kelp. Taste their delicious kelp products.
From here we make our way to the National Trust Village of Central Tilba where you will meet with local producers Tilba Real Dairy and Seahealth Products. Enjoy a tasting of the Tilba Real Dairy cheeses paired with some locally crafted Tilba ales. You will have some time in Central Tilba to browse the shops and galleries.
From Tilba we will make our way back to Narooma. If you are an oyster lover then you are going to love this tour. We have paired up with The Oyster Farmers Daughter to showcase their oysters as well as an exclusive private tour of the Coxon's oyster farm. Learn what makes the Wagonga Inlet produce such incredible oysters and what it takes to grow them. Try an assortment of oysters prepared in different ways and pair this with a delicious cocktail or a cold pressed local juice. The oyster farm is located in a quiet bay overlooking the Wagonga Inlet. It is such a beautiful setting that we will leave you for a while to relax and enjoy the surroundings.
Our last stop is in the quaint village of Bodalla where will will visit the Bodalla Dairy Shed. The Bodalla Dairy are an award winning dairy known for their milk, cheeses and gelato. The Bodalla cheese is made with native ingredients including wattle seed, lemon myrtle, saltbush and our favourite is the gum leaf smoked cheddar. To finish off the tour try the different gelato flavours again made with native ingredients such as Davidson plum. Return to Narooma.
Southbound Escapes encourages environmentally conscious travel through bike hire and local tours that explore the natural beauty of our surrounds as well as our incredibly rich culture. We encourage our customers to please be aware of leaving a minimal footprint on the environment. Southbound Escapes donates money from our tours to local aboriginal Yuin Preschool e.g. we have purchased musical instruments (clap sticks) for the school which are also locally made.
