40 minutes south of Byron, between the fishing town of Ballina and the seaside village of Lennox Head, is an incredible 13km of guided walk that will take you across rivers, wetlands, secluded beach and centuries old coastal dune vegetation.
Traverse spectacular headlands that will take your breath away. Soaring 60m above the waves, it’s the perfect place to sit, find solitude & watch the whales pass by.
Standard Itinerary Overview (Subject to change based on specific group interest):
7:30am: Hotel pick up & transfer to Ballina Wharf

8:30am: Setting off along the back of the picturesque Richmond River, we pass the notorious bar & historic lighthouse as we learn about Ballina’s history as a port town. Keep your eyes open for dolphins! Coffee lovers won’t be disappointed with morning tea at Shelly Beach Café – absolute beachfront & below the Ballina Head lookout.
Continue on to Sharpes Beach via the “Cultural Way” – a section of dune vegetation that holds great significance for the Aboriginal people of this region. The next section of the walk is quite remote & the scenery truly breathtaking. It’s no wonder it’s a sought-after location used in TV, film, & commercials; not to mention one of the best vantage points along the coast for spotting whales during their annual migration.
A gradual climb sees us atop the Lennox Point, known worldwide for its challenging surf break. Take a moment to savour the view to the Byron Lighthouse before heading down to the village of Lennox Head, where you will find an incredible selection of cafés, bars & retail outlets. Enjoy lunch & a swim at the surf club, boat channel or tea-tree lake before transferring back to your hotel.

1:30pm: We aim to have you back in Byron Bay by approximately 1:30pm.

You will need:
Comfy walking shoes, day pack, refillable water bottle, sunscreen, swimmers, towel, hat, camera & rain protection. We encourage our guests to bring food that doesn't contain single-use plastic to keep our local environment clean and healthy!
Whilst a reasonable level of fitness is recommended this 13km walk will suit most abilities
Our guide will always carry a complete first aid kit, so there is no need to bring one; however, please ensure you carry any self-administered medications, e.g. Asthma inhalers.
Transfers operate from selected pick up points in Byron Bay, Suffolk Park, Lennox Head & Ballina. Pick up time is estimated only & confirmed one day prior.
